Dubawi’s New Bay Back With a Win in the Guillaume d’Ornano
Updated: August 15, 2015 at 1:13 pm
Runner-up in the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp May 10 before going one better in Chantilly’s G1 Prix du Jockey Club over 10 1/2 furlongs three weeks later, New Bay re-emerged from a short holiday to take this stepping stone back to bigger things in his stride. Settled in second early following his rabbit Countermeasure (GB) (American Post {GB}), the homebred struck the front passing the quarter pole with Vincent Cheminaud keen on keeping it simple and despite veering right he was always comfortably holding Dariyan on the run to the line. “We are absolutely delighted to see him back and it’s a great start to the second part of the season,” the owner-breeder’s racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe said. “We will now think of the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe [at Longchamp Oct. 4], with perhaps the [Sept. 13] G2 Prix Niel beforehand. We are encouraged to think that he will stay a mile and a half, but there is no guarantee about it as he is by Dubawi and the dam is by Zamindar. There is a lot of stamina in the back-end of his family and so only racing will tell us.”
